Beta max, Anyone?

I heard on the radio this morning that the Networks are now blocking some content from being burnable to DVD from your digital video recorders (like TIVO), in order to protect their copyright.
I’m so completely over the digital rights war. I’m sure the networks’ excuse is something about how burning a copy of the season finale of 24 will destroy their DVD sales ARPU when the next season is released. Never mind that the networks aren’t producing DVDs of the good shows. Like the Powers of Matthew Star for instance.
So I’ve come to a conclusion: Pop, you were right.
Analog IS better than digital. You see, I’m going to go out and get a VCR. I’ve heard that some places still make them. I’m also going to get a cassette player. And then, I’m going to dub all the copy-protected CDs I have onto tape and then convert them to digital format on my Mac so I can play them on any digital music player I want (Don’t worry, RIAA, I won’t distribute them. But I will play them so loud every one for miles can hear them. So there.)
And then I’m going to start recording all the TV shows I want to (did you know that you can actually time the recordings on those old VCR thingamajigs?). And then I’m going to take THOSE and download them to my mac and burn them onto DVDs to keep for my own personal use. See, I only need one tape every couple dozen shows or so before it degrades. So really, the added cost is almost completely negligible.
I’m going to join hands with yesterday’s technology to screw today’s technology police. And I hope you do the same.
Unless they figure out a way to stop that…
Anyone got a gramophone?
