Write more

I guess, if I had to pick one resolution this new year, that was it.
I could have gone with the standards: lose weight, for example. But I take my resolutions seriously. I like to set myself up for success, when possible. Besides, I’m still quite popular with the ladies, you know.
I quit smoking officially in January of ’03 (although it was much earlier, if you ask my mom. Shh.). So that one is covered. In ’04, I spent most of the year trying to get my face to work. Last year, I never got my motorcycle or hammock, but I did get the outdoor gas range and had a bunch of barbecues. (Sorry if you weren’t invited. But I had to draw the line somewhere.)
So this year, I will again target the motorcycle and hammock.
And I will write more. If I want to gain a leg up on any of the greats—like Twain, or London—I’m far too behind. Hell my old man just stared writing, and he’s already got two more books under his belt than I do.
Actually, I’ll probably never go far in that particular direction (Speaking to Twain and London, not Pop. Actually, Pop too. I don’t plan on writing any statistics textbooks, either). Maybe pulp. More likely non-fiction or humor. If I can find a way to be funny in more than 1,500 word bursts, anyway.
For the time being, I’m on track. Just put to bed another Spotlight cover story for the Rocky that should be out this week or next on Coffeehouses. And I took a quick assignment on bars in which to watch the AFC Championship game that will run this weekend as well. That’s all in addition to the column and my other assignments. And I’m writing scripts for some commercial spots at the day gig.
And I will increase my presence here. So fasten your seatbelts and tighten your sparkler hats.
I resolve to be more prolific this year.
We’ll worry about substance in ‘07.
