This is beginning to drive me a little crazy, I must admit.
If I could, I’d grab a bullhorn and yell, “Senator Clinton!!! Video Games are NOT all for children anymore! Just like certain books, magazines and movies!”
The problem is, her generation still hasn’t figured this out.
Ma, Pop, and all the rest of you, guess what: I grew up in the video game generation. I’m 30 now. I still play video games. Madden remains my personal favorite, but I’m a big fan of Grand Theft Auto: Sand Andreas, and I have some friends who play Halo 2 rather than sleep.
The fact of the matter is this kind of knee-jerk, liberal babble is exactly why I can’t get on board with the party. I do not need my government “protecting” me or any children I might have from the content of a video game. That’s up to me or my parents, when I was a child. And you know what? They did just fine.
Remember 20 years ago when everyone was up in arms because of those “dangerous role playing games?” Parents were all a flutter, concerned that little Johnny and Suzie were going to get confused about what’s real and what isn’t and might start attacking the lawnmower with a shovel, thinking it was an orc. Or slit their sibling’s throats in the dead of night for 30 gold pieces and the shield defense potion.
Newsflash: the only danger RPGs like Dungeon and Dragons promoted was social retardation—the fallout—a legion of geeks destined for a lifetime of chastity.
This “blame the media” shit is getting old, folks. Clinton’s just picking up where good ol’ Tipper Gore left off, with her warning labels and PMRC. How many millions of dollars of the taxpayers money are we going to waste on “poor taste?” And if we are, then I propose we start with Western Liberals and the ridiculous southwestern motif they all seem hell bent on decorating their houses in. Newsflash #2: that teal Kokopelli light switch cover is still ugly as sin.
